All about Batteries...
The
torches we stock here at Extreme Torches use a range of different battery
chemistries. These include:
Alkaline
The
1.5v alkaline-manganese dioxide battery was introduced in the early 1960's and
remains very common place in today's battery
market. These can be used in our AA compatible torches,
however due to how the voltage in an Alkaline battery 'sags' under a high load,
don't expect great runtime (especially at higher brightness / current
levels).
NiMH
Nickel-metal hydride batteries are the rechargeable cells most people
know of. Available in AAA, AA, C and D sizes, they can be used nearly everywhere
a alkaline can. Although their voltage is lower 1.2v vs 1.5v for Alkaline, they are much
better suited to high drain devices and experience less voltage sag.
NiMH batteries used to suffer from self
discharge, where a NiMH battery once charged would eventually become dead even
with little or no use.
With
the recent release of the Sanyo Eneloop range of batteries, self discharge is
now a thing of the past. Eneloop batteries once charged can be relied on to
retain 85% of their capacity after one year.
These are the pick of the crop for AA
battery torches.
Check out our Batteries & Chargers section...
Lithium-ion is a low maintenance
battery, an advantage that most other chemistries cannot claim. There is no
memory and no scheduled cycling is required to prolong the battery's life. In
addition, the self-discharge is very low. With a nominal voltage of 3.6v, these
pack a lot of punch in a small form
factor.
At
Extreme Torches many of our torches can utilise these batteries, with some only
running on Li-ION.
We
stock these cells in the following sizes:
16340
/ R123A (Same size as disposable CR123 but 3.6v)
- 750 mAH capacity
Extreme Torches stock a range of Li-ION batteries, please contact us for
information...
Li-ION
Chargers
We currently do not stock any Li-ION battery
chargers. These are quite easily available from websites like Ebay etc.
We
are currently working on sourcing some high quality Li-ION chargers. Please
contact us to see whether these are available.
Li-ION
Safety
Please be aware that Li-ION
batteries can be dangerous if mistreated or misused. The batteries and chargers
listed on our website are for use only by qualified individuals. Please ensure
that you have sufficient knowledge in handling these products before
purchasing.
Please contact us if you have any queries or
questions.
